Established in 1610 and rebuilt in 1886, this church, along with the Plaza is the centerpiece of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  There are several stories of the building of the 1886 church.  At the top of the arch for the main door are Hebrew letters.  One story has it that the local Jewish community provided funds for the construction of the church and this was a way of recognizing those contributions.  Another story says that the female owner of a local brothel provided significant funds for the church.  Apparently she was so rich that she guaranteed the pay for the soldiers at times.  Also the story goes that she is buried inside the church because of her contributions.  However it was built, it is a majestic work.
