Seneca Stone Cutting Mill

Fort King George was established in 1721 and was the Southern most British outpost until 1736.  That is when General Ogelthorpe brought some Scottish Highlanders to the area.  The Scottish influence is felt today in McIntosh County (where Fort King George is located).

Not knowing what to expect, I ran into some period tents.  At this particular tent, the lady was cooking a pork roast over an open fire with a cast iron pot turned upside down.  A method that I had not heard of before. Fortunately, there were Highland musicians with violins playing for the crowd. I should have expected it, but the bagpipes still came as a shock.  Although I will have to admit that they were very good players and the usual squalling I have associated with bagpipes was not present.

Also a fortunate find was the young lady doing a Highland Fling.  According to the MC, the Fling was done standing in one place.  Highland dancing is taught today in Savannah, GA. And then there was the attack of the Spanish!!! The Scottish General hurries to the wall to determine the threat!

Indians accompany the Spanish To the tune of the bagpipe, the Scottish riflemen and cannoneers fight!  No body shot the bagpiper! The Spanish advance.

The Scottish General signal VICTORY! All the re-inactors join together at the end after firing many a pound of black powder! For the Spanish infantry, the day was hot and the suits were even hotter!
