[Laurel Leader-Call, October 13, 1992]

Ellene Baker Lindsey, 100, of Laurel, died Sunday. Oct. 11, 1992. of congestive heart failure at South Central Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel. The Rev. Steven B. Shurman will officate.
She was born in Shuqualak to William Marshall and Anderson Baker. She moved to Laurel with her family in 1904. She graduated from Laurel High in 1909 and also attended Blue Mountain College. She taught in the Laurel City Schools for several years.

She married John Lindsey Jr., in 1914. Her father-in-law, John Lindsey Sr., was one the early pioneers of Laurel who invented the Lindsey 8 Wheel Wagon in 1899 that revolutionized the lumber industry of that era.

They had two children, Mrs. R. Z. (Mary B.) Pepper of Laurel and John Lindsey III who proceded her in death.

Mrs. Lindsey was a member of the D.A.R. and was active in the First Presbyterian Church for many years. She served as president of the womens auxilliary, and later joined the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. R. Z. (Mary B.) Pepper of Laurel, four grandsons, Lex Lindsey of Seattle, Wash., Jay Lindsey of, Greenwich, Conn., David Lindsey of St. Louis, Mo., Lt. Russell Lindsey, USN, of Virginia Beach, VA.; one granddaughter, Leslie Lindsey of New York, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stevie Bate man, Charles Kent, Sam Lindsey, Fred McNeel and Leo Lawless.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Laurel or a favorite charity.
