["Laurel Leader-Call" Obituary, January 20, 1958]

Funeral services for John Lindsey, 67, were conducted at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from his 705 Fifth Avenue home with the Rev. William David Brown, Dr. Grayson L. Tucker and the Rev. Thomas R. McKibbens officiating.

Internment followed in Hickory Grove cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Irwin Bradford, Lunsford Casey, Pete Curtis, Douglas Kelso, Sam Pack, James Fuller, Russell Lindsey, and Carroll Bonney.

Death came at 11:30 Saturday morning at a Laurel hospital following an illness of long duration.

A native of Jones County, he was born at Sandersville, the son of the late John and Carrie Winn Lindsey and had been a resident of Laurel since his early youth.

In the lumber business here for many years, he later purchased Scott Jewelry Co.  Due to poor health, he retired in 1935.  He was widely known in this section and statewide.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. John Lindsey, one son, John Lindsey, III, a daughter, Mrs. R. Z. Pepper, all of Laurel; a brother, Earle Lindsey, Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Lex Lindsey and Jay Lindsey, Washington, D.C.
