Lindsey 8 Wheel Wagon and Ox Team

Wagon with Oxen

Notice the poles that are running through the length of the wagon. These pole are used for loading the wagon.

Mules and Logs

First you have the mules move the log into position to the wagon.

Setting up the Wagon

As the logs are being brought to the wagon, you prepare for loading.

Mules on One Side: Logs on the Other

The same mules that brought the log to the wagon would then load the wagon by the use of chains that would roll the log up the loading poles.

2nd Log is Loaded

This gives you an idea of the way the poles worked as well as the way the chain rolled the log up the poles.

Keep it Straight

Of course; people still had to ensure that the log went were it was supposed to go.
