The Gulf and Ship Island RR purchased the line from Laurel to Cohay [Mize] and extended it to Saratoga, MS where it tied in with their main line.  Eastman Gardiner used the track for their log trains.  By 1903 Eastman Gardiner owned 180,000 acres of Yellow Pine timber.  That same year, they shipped 3,350 carloads of lumber over the G&S I RR.  The peak year was 1911 when the G&S I RR shipped 360 million board feet of lumber through the port of Gulfport, MS.
