Big Poplar Log 800 x 608

"Old Boss", the world's largest pine, is not the only big tree that has grown in the territory served by the G. M. & N. as is evidenced by the photograph accompanying.  However, this picture is of a poplar log.  It was grown in Tippah county, Mississippi and was cut by Strickland and Ashland, of Ripley.  Mr. Rickland is the gentleman in the picture.  The log on the wagon measured six feet in diameter.  The tree produced five 12 foot cuts and one of ten feet with a total of 7,968 board feet of lumber.  The log pictured had a total of 1807 board feet.

[Note: Please notice that the log is being carried on a Lindsey 8 Wheel Log Wagon.]
