Update March 2009

Here is the swamp area of the layout.  I have done the most scenery work here. A more detailed look at the swamp.  Notice the trestle is made of 1/2" dowels cut in half.  Also notice the Osprey nest and the alligator.  The "water" is plexiglas that will be pretty much covered with water lilies later. Here is a shot from the front of the layout.  I have a combination of scale and Lionel fixtures.  The station is Atlas O scale; the  block light to the far right is Lionel.  But I like the block light!
Here you see the reverse loop, the sawmill, and the oil rig.  Sawmill and oil rig operate. This is a old Marx draw bridge.  I saw it in a meet and thought it was really kind of neat.  However, I couldn't think of any way to use it on the layout.  So, the plans are now to have it linked to the switch on the right, but have a sand dune covering the track and part of the bridge. Here is a Lionel light house that has a fog horn and a rotating light.  I couldn't resist.  So this section of the layout will be beach leading to the sea.  So the layout will go from swamp to seashore.   Originally, I was going to make this section a town with commercial activity, but I have down-sized my ambition.
