According to Wikipedia:

"Plum Orchard is an estate located in the middle of the western shore of Cumberland Island, Georgia. The estate and surrounding area are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Designed by Peabody and Stearns for George Lauder Carnegie, it was formally dedicated on October 6, 1898. Peabody and Stearns also designed various additions to the mansion in the several following years."

Thanks to the cooperation of the National Park Service, Superintendent Jerre Brumbelow, Chief Ranger Eric Ulitalo and others, I have been granted access to the mansion as it is being restored.  This restoration is made possible by $3.247 million funding by the Federal Government.

While I am coming in at the final 5 months or so of work on the mansion, some amazing work is being done.  I hope you enjoy the following photos of the work.

This is the bell that is on the 2nd floor family staircase.  When you expand the photo, you can see the inscriptions.  This bell is about 18" across.  It has the inscription "Carnegie Plum Orchard October 6, 1898 Ring in Joyous Remembrance."
