Autumn Near the Kentlands 2002


Pennyfield Lock house looking upstream on a very cold morning. Near mile 20, Lock 22	Catoctin Viaduct for the Canal. The viaduct was almost doomed from the start; known as old swayback, it kept being deformed until parts of it finally collapsed.	Seneca Creek Viaduct. Near mile 23. Seneca Red Stone Quarries and the Seneca Creek Basin are nearby as well as Riley's Lock

B & O RR bridge crossing the Catoctin Creek. A contemporary of the Canal, it still handles a double-track main line across it.	Point of Rocks tunnel for the CSX. This was the old B&O route along the Potomac. Here the RR and the Canal were so close together that the courts had to mandate a method of separation.	Daylight streaming over the clouds at the Seneca Creek Basin. Looking from Seneca Creek downstream into the Potomac River
