Autumn Near the Kentlands 2002

Muddy Branch Creek runs through Montgomery County near the Kentlands in Maryland.

These pictures are starting at Highway 28 and heading South along the creek toward Quince Orchard Road

Moving downstream, it appeared that these rocks were part of the natural setting. (9456-0A) On closer inspection, the rocks were blasted.  Note the bore holes for explosives. (9456-04A) The curve of the log and the curve of the creek almost match. (9456-01A)

A fallen log among the ferns in the flood plain. (9456-03A) A log that had fallen in the flood plain and is being reclaimed by the soil. (68547-25) A log just on the bank of the creek with fungus and moss attacking it.  An old piece of barb wire is still embedded. (68547-24)

Trees and logs go every which way along Muddy Branch. (68547-21) Even though it is August, the drought is causing some leaves to fall. (68547-19) Looking from the bridge at Quince Orchard Road North. (68547-16)

Just below my tripod of the last picture, I noticed this butterfly getting moisture from the sand and rocks. (68547-15)   Quince Orchard Road Bridge.  Notice that this bridge is not much higher than the old bridge on page 3.  Compare this with the new bridge on H'way 28 (page 2). (68547-13)
