Old Western Maryland depot.  Now Historical Society open Sundays 1-4 PM Across the street from the old depot is the new headquarters of the Maryland Midland Railroad. Lash up of GP-9s waiting to go back to the cement plant switching routine.  They come out of the plant about once a month for cleaning.
One of the fairly new GP-38-3s.  The AC at the end of the name is wrong according to the workers.  These units were rebuilt in 1997, run until 2000 and then stored until MMRR got them recently.  Keeping with the old WM tradition of keeping the motive power clean. Just a picture of times past.  You see fewer and fewer of these. A 44 tonner that is ex-Lehigh Cement.  Now in MMRR yard.  You can tell it worked cement from the residual.
Interesting set of cars.  The passenger car is a U.S. RR Administration car and the car in the foreground is a wired hopper.  There is a sign that the two cars are NOT to be uncoupled. Lehigh Cement Plant.  This is looking at the east entrance.  MMRR is building a new access to the plant.  As of April 11, 2005, the rails come to the road, but not past it into the plant. This is probably why they are building a new access to the plant. The current access runs through the middle of Farquhar Street from the MMRR yard to the plant.
All these photos were shot on April 11, 2005.  If you visit Union Bridge, stop by the Maryland Midland RR offices; they are the nicest people.  If you sign a waiver of liability, they will let you wander their yard.  After you show the people working in the yard the waiver, they are very friendly and helpful.  One of the better experiences I have had.

Oh yes, the photos are all 1024 x 768 size if you want to save any for wallpaper.  To use any of the photos for a purpose other than your personal wallpaper, please contact me first.  Thanks.
