Mrs. Sam Lindsey, 60, well known citizen of Laurel, died at her residence, 1137 Second Avenue, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 following an illness of two weeks.

Mrs. Lindsey was born in Black Creek, Wisconsin, November 4, 1885 and came to Laurel in 1989 with her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Burdick.  Before her marriage in 1908 to Sam Lindsey, she was Jessie Katharine Burdick.  She was active in church and civic work until her health failed several years ago.  She was superintendent of the Intermediate Sunday school class of the First Baptist Church for 16 years.  She organized the high school P. T. A. and was a member of the W. C. T. U. and a group leader of the Fidelis Sunday School class of her church.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Parker and Mrs. Dewey Blackledge of Laurel and Mrs. Claude McClain of New Orleans; one son, Sgt. Sam Lindsey, Jr. who is enroute home from the Pacfic; her foster father, R. E. Burdick, Laurel; two sisters, Mrs. Dan McDonald, Kincardine, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. Frank Longrie, Seymore, Wisconsin; one brother, John R. Timmers, Berkeley, California and seven grandchildren.
